Day 13, 14, and Breaking the Detox

WOW, sorry for not posting! I've been so busy the past few days that I didn't have time to update at all.

Friday was Day 13 and that went well. My weight was around 116 or 117ish. I had some kind of veggie juice for lunch, but I don't remember what I mixed. For dinner, I did the ginger carrots again which are oh so yummy!

Saturday got pretty messed up with the hiking thing. I met everyone for breakfast at 7:30am and I ate breakfast as planned. I'm glad that I did because the hike may have turned out badly if I didn't have anything in my stomach. I brought a berry drink, green drink, protein drink, and water with me on the hike. I froze them all, so I alternated what I was drinking depending on what was defrosted the most! The hike went really well and I had a butt load of fun! We did go and grab Mexican food after, so that kind of threw the rest of the detox out the window.

As of Sunday, I've officially broken the detox. I had my normal berry and green drinks during the morning and had some as a lunch/snack as well. I was invited to go out on a friend's sailboat for the afternoon. We had a potluck and ate ribs, salads, and other foods like that. It was alot of fun and I probably drank a little bit more than I should of, but everything turned out just dandy!

As for yesterday, I didn't have time to pack my normal lunch since I got back late Sunday night. I wasn't even really hungry at all because of all the food we ate the day before. I went to the mall to grab a chicken and avacado sandwich for lunch, which turned out to be super yummy. For dinner, I just sorta had a snack since I again wasn't that hungry and needed to get back on track with this stuff.

So far today, I've had my normal berry and green drinks. I'm going to have chicken salad for lunch and I plan on doing a soup for dinner. I would really like to get back into the grind with the gym tonight, but I have so much to worry about this week with my roommate leaving soon. And I also will be getting off work late today because we have this workshop thingy to go too. As for my weight, it's been about 118ish and I like it there.

Day 12

Only a few more days!!

Nothing new or different really to report. I can't even remember what I mixed for lunch, but it was something along the lines of carrots, celery, parsley, beets, radishes, and I think maybe some collards.

I didn't go to the gym last night because I had to take care of a bunch of stuff. When I went tanning last night (yes, I go fake tanning lol), I had a complete freak out. I believe the scale said 115 yesterday. Anyway, I noticed my hip bones definitely sticking out a little bit. I am by no means "stick thin" so this was very noticeable to me and I flipped. I was originally planning on having my normal dinner stuff, but after I saw this, I immediately went to the store and bought a sandwich. No more losing weight for me! I DO NOT want it to be like that at all! No thank you!

I'm going on a hike tomorrow that I'm very excited about. It should last a good 4 or 5 hours. A friend voiced concerns about me going on the hike and not actually eating any food. And that's with valid reason, because something bad could happen if I'm out hiking all day without any real food in me. Luckily, everyone going is meeting for breakfast beforehand, so I'm going to eat with them. That way I will have something in my system for the hike. I'm going to bring my normal drinks with me and I'll pack some veggie juice for lunch. I'll probably stick them all in the freezer tonight so they can last as long as possible on the hike. I hope no one looks at me weird when I'm drinking my lunch!!

Tomorrow is the last day!

Day 11

Today was good. Didn't make it to the gym... not because of the friend (he got another ride) but because I had to deal with iPod issues. UGH not fun!

Anyway, still steady at 116. I didn't have veggie juice today because I had so much to worry about last night, so I just had another Berry drink instead. For dinner, I had my leftover Curried Veggies which were super yummy, of course.

I've definitely realized that I've been feeling alot better... after the healing crisis, that is. It's easier for me to get up in the mornings and I'm definitely more awake! I'm not feeling tired throughout the day at all. I feel more calm. And, believe it or not, I feel more "clean" if that makes any sense.

I was looking at the book tonight, and I think I'm going to do a 4 day transition back into normal life. Should be ok with that. I start the transition on Sunday!

Day 10

WOW yesterday was a busy day! I didn't have time to even think!

Something weird is going on with my green drinks. I had originally bought a huge thing of bottles of water. I was saving and washing out all the bottles so that I can reused them. I started reusing them this week since I was out of the originals. I've noticed that the green drinks are having this orange-ish powder color that shows up in specs on the inside of the bottle. I originally thought I hadn't cleaned it out all the way. But the next green drink did the same thing. And now I'm sitting here having one and it's also doing the same thing. The green drinks have been having a strange taste. The first one I had yesterday, I couldn't finish it because it was awful. Second one wasn't as bad. The one I'm drinking now is ok, but the remnants of strange taste are still there. Maybe I won't be able to reuse the bottle for the green drink and i'll just use a covered cup or something.

Yesterday was good, otherwise. Weight is steady at 116. I didn't have a chance to make it to the gym because I had way too much stuff to take care of at home. For lunch, I had carrots, collards, celery, and parsley.

For dinner, I tried and made up my own mixture. It was good, but not as awesome as all the ones in the book. I mixed sweet potatoes, carrots, spinach, onion, celery, garlic, Italian seasoning, and cinnamon.

I won't be able to make it to the gym tonight because said friend that is in town is now using me for a ride to the airport. He's giving me gas money, which I don't understand why he doesn't just pay for a cab. So fan-fucking-tastic, I get to sit through rush hour traffic on the highway in Hawaii. DEFINITELY not how I wanted to spend my evening. UGH

Day 9

Another good day! The scale either said 117 or 116... it was hard to tell because I have one of those dial type scales. But in any case, still in the clear.

I don't think I've mentioned this yet, but Stevia is absolutely amazing! I had never heard about it before this detox. I normally use Splenda, but Stevia is even sweeter than that! I only need to use half a packet to sweeten my tea whereas I would use at least one packet of Splenda before. I still have alot of Splenda left, so I think after I'm all out of that after the detox, I will be converting to Stevia for good!

For lunch yesterday, I had celery, cucumber, red cabbage, and parsley. I don't remember if I had kale in there too, but I might have. It was surprisingly sweet even with no carrots! Very yummy! For dinner, I had my leftover Southern Collard Greens. Obviously I didn't have any broth since I wasn't cooking last night.

I cheated again!!! I know, I'm a terrible person. One of my friends from college randomly came in town for a few days and called me to tell me that he was here. I haven't seen him in I don't know how long and he talked me into meeting him for a drink. I kept it fruity so I was still along the juice lines. It didn't make any difference when I hopped on the scale this morning. I originally said I'd meet up with him today too, but I've got alot of things I need to take care of AND I was up late last night and I'm super tired because of it.

Well, I need to get to work here. Only a few more days of the detox!

Day 8

Today was great! Well, aside from waking up ass early for no known reason, it was great! I got a decent workout in today. Did my usual bike ride to the gym, some cardio, and a light workout session along with doing some ab work.

I'm not feeling exhausted when I wake up anymore and I'm also no longer have stomach pains whatsoever! I guess that was all related to the "healing crisis." Sure am glad that's over and done with because it SUCKED!!

Lunch was yummy. I mixed kale, cucumber, celery, and parsley. It was VERY green! After lunch, I packed a berry drink and took the dogs to the dog park! I've been taking them every Sunday which I'm sure they're enjoying. It gives them a chance to just run around and go nuts since they're confined to the apartment all the time. And I did some running around, as well.

Dinner was fantastic, as usual. Seriously, I haven't had one dinner so far that I didn't absolutely love! I made the Asian Spinach and mixed: spinach, romaine, onion, red peppers, green beans, ginger, garlic, chili powder, and this Hawaiian/Asian sauce stuff I have. It was delicious down to the last drop!

I finished my teeth whitening last night. It definitely made a difference! They're not the whitest they could be, but it's definitely an improvement and I'm happy with the results! I'll probably do it again sometime in the future to get even better results. Don't know when that will be, so we'll see!

Still holdin steady at 117. That's got to be due to the sandwich and whatnot, but I'm ok with that. I've got 6 days left so I've got to make them count!

Saturday, April 19, 2008

Day 7

I got a good night's sleep last night and that definitely helped me to feel alot better! Still bummed out from yesterday, but I'm hangin in there. I had a nice day at the beach, except when the water came up higher than it ever does and soaked me along with my phone, ipod, and everything else I had with me. I moved pretty fast and scooped up everything and shockingly all my electronics are still working. That pretty much ended the beach day for me.

It really helps that I drink all of my stuff out of water bottles. It makes it so much easier to go about my day. For instance, I just stuck a green and berry drink in the freezer before I left so that they would keep cool as long as possible. Then I just packed them with my stuff for the beach. So easy!

Anyway, scale said 117, so the sandwich didn't mess everything up. Not that I thought it would. I definitely needed a break after the past few days. For lunch, I mixed radishes, radish greens, carrots, apple, parsley, and ginger. I wanted to try ginger in a juice since I hadn't done it yet. It didn't go too well with my mixture. It wasn't "bad" but it definitely didn't help the juice haha. Hopefully I can come up with a good mixture with it.

Dinner was SO good! I made the curry veggies and mixed yellow squash, green beans, carrots, spinach, ginger, garlic, onion, curry powder, ground red pepper, and cinnamon. OH MAN it was GOOD! I made more again, so I have some extra for this week. So now I have two meals for this week! It'll give me a break from having to worry about cutting veggies and cooking!

I'm thinking that I'm going to stop after the 2 week mark. I already eat healthy as it is. I don't need to lose weight. I think that after 2 weeks, I will be sufficiently "detoxed." I will follow the book with reintroducing everything back into my diet. And now I've learned so much about juicing and soups that I will definitely continue to do that! And I can have a berry or green drink as a snack, as opposed to the snacks I was having before.

Until tomorrow...!

Day 6

Ok, I took a break from the detox for my dinner tonight. Today was extremely stressful on me with the kitty situation. We tried to do all we could, but ended up having to put her to sleep after all. It was extremely depressing for me because I did all I could do and it still wasn't good enough. So, I decided to have a sandwich for dinner.

Everything else for today went fine. Weight is down to 117 (which is another reason why a sandwich isn't that huge of a deal to me). For lunch: beet, carrots, celery, cilantro, and I think a few others... mind is a mess right now. I didn't have my 4:30 berry drink or my 6:30 dinner. Instead I got a sandwich from Safeway, which is all fresh meats and veggies, so it's not like I was stuffing my face with a pizza or cheeseburger.

Normal detox will resume tomorrow.

Day 5

Please don't hate me! PLEASE!! I cheated!!!! :-( First, let me start by saying that in Hawaiian culture it's extremely rude to say no to an offering of food. It's downright offensive. So anyway, I was sitting in my cube minding my own business. The guy next to me comes over with 2 scones and offers me on. I kinda brushed it off and was like "eeehhhh naaaahhh." I thought I was in the clear. I wasn't. He kept insisting "No, they're really good!" And he said that there were only 2 and he wanted me to have one before anyone took the rest. So after much convincing, I finally gave in. And then he wanted to know if I liked it, so of course I had to have some. So, I ate a raspberry/blueberry scone. And let me tell you, it was THE best damn scone I've ever had in my entire life! The fact that I'm on the detox made it taste THAT much better.

But that aside, everything else is going as planned! Scale said 118. For lunch, I had: carrots, celery, kale, apple, and parsley. Very yummy!

Didn't go to the gym today because I picked up the kitty, who I've named Lulu. She's doing well so far... she ate when we first got home and she's been napping ever since. She's still on pain meds, so that's expected. She goes to the vet tomorrow, so cross your fingers for us!

I wasn't tired when I woke up today AND I didn't have any stomach pains at all! WOO HOO!!

For dinner I made the Southern Collard Greens with: collards, carrots, sweet potatoes, celery, parsley, garlic, and ground red pepper. It was awesome! I made a little too much, so I have a meal leftover to eat.

Well, I need to go pay some more attention to Lulu. Hopefully I won't cheat tomorrow! It's so hard because I've been stressed the past few days. I could really go for a drink!

Day 4

Today was another stressful day. I went to the Humane Society to find out what was going to happen to the cat I helped last night. Before I knew what happened, I was signing papers to pick her up tomorrow so that she wouldn't get euthanized. I'm taking her to my vet on Friday so hopefully we can get a prognosis on her. Unfortunately, if it's anything expensive, I can't afford it. But I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. For now I'm just going to hold out hope that everything will be ok.

Detox is still going well. I'm not hungry, but I'm still craving something big, greasy, and completely bad for me! Scale told me 119 today, so I'm still in ther clear.

For lunch: carrots, cucumber, and red cabbage. It was really good!

I didn't go to the gym today because I was at the Humane Society and such. And I was a little sore from the past few days. I won't be able to go tomorrow night either because I'll be getting the cat. So depending on what happens with her within the next few days, I may or may not be going to the gym.

I made the spicy bean thing for dinner! It was really good! I used black beans (dried... and they take FOREVER to cook, so be prepared to have like a freaking hour), onions, garlic, thyme, tomato paste, and ground hot red pepper seasoning.

No stomach pains today!! Well, I lied. I think I got them once tonight but for only like a minute. Thank GOD! I don't want to keep going through that!

Other than that, nothing really to report!

Day 3

Last night was extremely stressful, as I had to deal with a cat getting hit by a car in front of my apartment. The cat was alive, but with broken legs. I think she was a stray. I had to call the Humane Society to come get her. It was no a fun experience and I was left extremely frazzled for the rest of the night and didn't have the motivation to post.

Anyway, Day 3 went well. I've been drinking some tea in the mornings around 6:30am while I'm getting ready for work. That's the main time that I'm hungry and I can't wait until 8:30 to have something! So it's my little pick-me-up.

Something that is bothering me about this is that I am absolutely completely exhausted when I wake up in the mornings! I thought you were supposed to have MORE energy? Seriously, I've never been this tired before when I wake up. It's awful! My alarm goes off and I feel like I could sleep all day and it's actually hard to drag myself out of bed! I'm hoping this just goes with the rest of the side effects because it really isn't a pleasant one.

For lunch yesterday, I had: carrots, spinach, kale, swiss chard, and garlic. The smell of juicing garlic is amazing! I LOVE garlic! Although, I think putting an entire clove in there was a little too much. When I drank it, I was like WHOOOAAAA GARLIC!

My stomach started hurting a little bit around the same time that it did the day before, but it wasn't as bad. Went to the gym and did a light workout again. Did a shorter workout than the day before and it must've been a good decision, because when I was walking back into my apartment is when I witnessed the cat accident. The people who hit the cat didn't even STOP! But, that's completely off topic.

Dinner was fantastic, as usual! I made the ginger carrots from the book and I made that with carrots, sweet potatoes, spinach, ginger, and cinnamon. I put a LOT of cinnamon in it and it really worked well with the sweet potatoes! I think I want to make that spicy bean one tonight!

I was so frazzled last night that I made an absolute mess in the kitchen when I was preparing my stuff for today. I forgot to empty some of the water out of the bottles when I was putting the Berry mix in it. The result? Berry mix ALL over the place! And it's dark reddish purple too! That was a fun cleanup!

I had SEVERE stomach pains last night around 8pm. Like, really bad. Like, I almost wanted to get off this thing it was so bad. But, I rode it out and it didn't last too long. I can't really explain the pains. It's pretty much just like your stomach hurts. I've never experienced this kind of pain before though. And I'd like to reiterate that it's NOT hunger pains as I am RARELY hungry throughout the day!

Oh and yesterday the scale said 120. Nothing to worry about yet!

Well, time to get back to work!

Monday, April 14, 2008

Day 2

I could totally go for a cheeseburger right about now!!!

Haha but the detox is going well! I was barely even hungry. I was a little bit the first half of the day, but other than that, I was completely full! I think the hardest thing to get used to is the fact that I am not chewing any food. I never imagined how weird it would feel to not have to chew! It's hard to keep myself from stuffing a fist full of veggies in my mouth while I'm preparing my food. I was ALWAYS the one to snack while making food! I think I'm going to have to get some gum or something because it feels so weird to never chew!

Lunch was yummy! I'm preparing my veggie juice the night before because it's easier and my juicer is super loud and I don't want to wake the roomie! It also gives me some extra time to sleep, which is much needed at this point. Anyway, here's what I had in my juice: beet, beet greens, radish, radish greens, carrot, celery, parsley, and cucumber.

I'm going to be editting my schedule. I have been having all my green and berry drinks in 17oz bottles of water. That way, I'm getting the drink, and the called for 8oz bottle of water, as well. I only had 2 teas during the day today because I wasn't really craving another one... I really felt full!

I didn't eat dinner till just after 7pm. Went to the gym and did a light workout. I ride my bike to the gym and that's about a 15min bike ride. Then, I did some cardio and a light routine. After that, I biked home. I cut up my dinner veggies before I left for the gym to make dinner preparation faster, but it still took about a half hour. So, I'll be eating dinner whenever I get home from the gym.

Dinner was amazing again! I made the Creamy Broccoli from the book and that had: broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, green beans, parsley, garlic, and oregano. I added some pepper to give it a little zing and it made it all that much better! Sidenote: I'm not following any of the recommended amounts for how much of whatever in a soup. I just go with what I feel right. I use the book recipes and the website recipes for guidelines of what tastes good together. And I'll add a little bit of this or that or change how much of something.

Oh I forgot to say, I hopped on the scale this morning. It said 121, so down one pound. Going to be keeping a strict eye on this because I DO NOT want to lose too much!

One of the biggest annoyances is having to go pee almost every hour! I felt like an idiot at work today going to the bathroom so often. And I'm not talking "oh I kinda have to pee" feeling... I mean full blown "I'm gonna pee my pants" feeling! But that goes without saying because everything is all liquid. I was cold the second half of the day, but I don't know if that was just my building or not (sometimes it is freezing in there!) Other than that, I started to not feel well around 5pm when I got home from work. My stomach wasn't feelin too hot! And it wasn't hunger pains, so don't think I was "starving" because I was completely full at that point. It started hurting right before I was going to go to the gym and I said "No, I have to go!" As soon as I hopped on my bike and started moving, the pain immediately went away! Problem solved!

I have the urge to quit, but I just need to get through these first few days and I'll be ok. It only gets better from here! I'm just hoping that my cravings for a burger and cookies and every bad food on earth goes away very soon!

Until tomorrow...

Sunday, April 13, 2008

Day 1

Today has been absolutely great!! I felt a little hungry the first half of the day, but I made it through. I had a little melt-down mid-day though. I was trying to prepare my juice lunch when my juicer stopped working!! It just shut off and I couldn't get it to work again! Of course, there was no help in the manual and I called the phone number and they were closed because it was Sunday. Called a few people and had NO idea what to do! I was sooo frustrated at this point thinking that everything was going to go down the hole. I kept fiddling with it and it suddenly started working!! THANK GOD!!! I almost had a heart attack!!

Lunch was fantastic! Here's what I mixed: 1 carrot, 1/2 an apple, 1/2 a tomato, 1/4 zucchini, 1/2 red pepper, 1 jalapeno. I like spicy so it definitely hit the spot!

I just finished dinner and it was soooo good! I didn't expect it to be that tasty, but it was great!! I had: sweet potato, onion, collard greens, green beans, and celery with garlic, ginger, oregano, basil, rosemary, and thyme. OH MAN it was super yummy!

So far so good! I'm looking forward to all this detox has to offer! I can't wait to try more concoctions!

Saturday, April 12, 2008

Tomorrow!

Well the detox starts tomorrow and I'm very excited! I went to the grocery store and picked up all the veggies and stuff that I'll need. It only cost about $120, so I was pleasantly suprised.

Here's everything that I bought:

  • garlic

  • onion

  • cauliflower

  • ginger root

  • black beans (dried)

  • red cabbage

  • beets

  • radishes

  • tomatoes

  • tomato paste (canned)

  • red pepper

  • carrots (10lb bag for only about $5!!)

  • sweet potatoes

  • yams

  • yellow squash

  • broccoli

  • celery

  • cilantro

  • collard greens

  • kale

  • parsley

  • swiss chard

  • spinach

  • green beans

  • romaine lettuce

  • lemons

  • limes

  • oranges

  • apples

  • bottled water

That's quite the grocery list! I had so many veggies that some guy walked up to my cart while I was grabbing more things and started taking things out! I went up to him and said "excuse me?" He thought my cart was the bargain bin! LOL!!

The fridge is PACKED! I only cut the beets and radishes and also kept all their greens. I labelled most of the greens because I can't tell the difference between them. Tomorrow will be my first experience juicing, so hopefully all goes well!

Oh and just so I can keep track of my weight and make sure that I don't lose too much, I hopped on the scale. As of tonight, I weigh 122, which is normal. Tomorrow I will be detoxing!

Tuesday, April 8, 2008

Almost time!

Detox is just a few days away! I'm an idiot... I said I got the 14 day white strips, when in fact, I got the 7 day ones. Guess I can't count! Hopefully they'll work just as good. But who am I to judge... I've never used them before!

I'm boycotting the gym this week. I actually haven't gone in about 2 weeks. Bad, I know. But I was on my business trip all last week and probably spent just as much travelling as I did actually there. I've never been so wiped out before! I had NO time to relax! I guess business really does mean business! But anyway, I'm back in Hawaii and decided I would just take it easy this week with the detox coming up. Once I start, I'm going to be going full speed on that and definitely intend on going to the gym. So, this is my cheat week where I don't have to worry about too much so that I can concentrate on the detox come Sunday.

I'm going to go buy all my veggies probably either Thursday or Friday. And I think I've decided that I'll only have protein drinks on days that I work out (usually just week days). I'll see how I feel, but that's the general plan.

I feel really good about the detox. I'm so excited! I feel like I'm approaching it with the right mindset and knowledge. I'm not doing it as a fad diet. I'm not doing it as a diet at all. I'm doing it to DETOX! The fact that you lose weight is just an added bonus, but the number one reason why I'm doing this is to cleanse and take control of my life!

Friday, April 4, 2008
